12 days of action fighting violence against women: Transphobia

Did you know that November 20 is Trans Remembrance Day? Since 1999, this day has aimed to commemorate all trans and gender diversity people who have been victims of homicide.

The research project, Transrespect versus Transphobia, has been identifying murders committed against trans and gender diversity since 2008. Their report for the last year was published this month: https://transrespect.org/en/tmm-update-tdor-2021/

2021 is the deadliest year, with 375 homicides committed against trans and gender diverse people. 96% of these murders were committed against trans women. The youngest victim was 13 years old.

It is important to be aware of the violence experienced by this population. Today we present to you Lexie, a French activist for the rights and visibility of trans and non-binary people. She uses her Instagram account as a space for education, advocacy and discussion on topics related to transidentity. Discover in her video the different types of violence that trans women face on a daily basis. It also calls for concrete actions that everyone can take to respect the rights and freedoms of trans and non-binary people.
