12 days of action fighting violence against women: street harassment
When talking about inequalities between men and women, the sense of security felt in public spaces is an excellent indicator. According to the CÉAF (Center for Education and Action for Women of Montreal), a feeling of insecurity is omnipresent among women in the public arena. Threatening towards witnesses and violent towards their victims, perpetrators of street harassment further widen the gap between the privilege of being born male and the distress experienced by women and those who identify as female.
Street harassment is not only defined by physical assault, but is also characterized by insistent stares, degrading speech, unsolicited sexual touching, threatening behavior, etc.
It is important not to be silent in the face of street harassment! Find out how to act in this video (in french) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaKDXkLDjNs
