12 days of action, fighting violence against women: microaggressions

Microaggressions, these trivialized attacks, ignored, accepted and sometimes even valued, seem harmless, but are at the source of violence against women. They are found at school, at work, on public transport, at home ... in short, they are everywhere. The double standard and gendered discourse are often at the heart of microaggressions against women and people who define themselves as women. These assaults are often unintentional, thus camouflaging the violence they generate.

These common-looking behaviors, when intended to ignore and ridicule the needs, values, likes and desires of women, have tremendous repercussions on their sense of power and freedom over their lives, bodies and their choices. They can create shame, guilt, fear and drastically affect self-confidence and self-esteem.
